A brace of goals from Morris Kadzola earned Wagga City Wanderers three points and bragging rights in the battle of the Wanderers in the only Capital Premier League match that survived on the opening weekend of the new season, as they defeated West Canberra Wanderers 2-1 at Melrose Synthetic.
The Wagga City playmaker struck once in either half to see off West Canberra, Wagga’s second win of the season on the West Canberra surface, having already booked their place in the Australia Cup Qualifying Round 4 with a similar 2-1 win against Brindabella Blues at the same venue.
Kadzola put Wagga City ahead four minutes before the half-hour mark, a lead they held until the half-time break, only for the hosts to level seven minutes into the second stanza as Bojan Jankuloski equalised. Kadzola sealed the win for the gleeful visitors with what turned out to be the match winner in the 68th minute, his third of the season in all competitions.
Elsewhere, the weather was the winner in Round 1 as the Capital Premier League program was decimated by solid overnight rain.
The scheduled matches between Belconnen United and Brindabella Blues at Kaleen Enclosed, Queanbeyan City and Canberra Juventus at High Street, and White Eagles and ANU FC at Woden Park, were postponed due to inclement weather conditions and will be replayed at a later date.
