Canberra Juventus handed out a statement of intent as they blitzed Canberra Olympic to claim a 6-1 victory at Ainslie Oval in the Capital Premier League in which Adrian Macor scored a hat-trick, and a trio of players were dismissed.
Julian Borgna and Mate Barisic saw red for the visitors, whilst Luca Macor was sent off for the home team as Juventus heavy mid-season recruitment raid on the National Premier League paid off in style.
Adrian Macor had already scored twice in the opening sixteen minutes, his second minute opener cancelled out within sixty seconds by Antoni Timotheou for Olympic, before the new boys got in on act. Both Josh Gaspari and Micheal Adams netted within two minutes of each other to put Juventus 4-1 ahead at the break.
There was more to come after the interval as Tony Madaffari, off the bench, made it five before Macor completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot and Juventus closed out a dominant victory.
Despite their massive win, Juventus still remain five points off third place in the league table as ANU FC continued their excellent season with a comprehensive 4-1 defeat of Wagga City Wanderers at Hawker Football Centre.
The University team, who have only tasted defeat once in eleven matches this season, were in front early in the second-half as Oliver Grist broke the half-time deadlock in the 48th minute.
A thirteenth league goal of the season for Golden Boot leader Jack Gibson followed within six minutes as ANU FC showed their class and, by the time that Andre Oliverira made it 3-0 just four minutes after Gibson’s goal, it was certainly game over.
Kade Lyons pulled one back for Wagga City with his eighth goal of the season, but Grist wanted more and added his second of the match with three minutes remaining to secure a success.
Further up the table, Belconnen United took advantage of Canberra Olympic’s defeat to move to the summit of the CPL, leading the charge towards the NPL by two points, as they recorded a 4-1 win over West Canberra Wanderers at McKellar Park.
Dustin Wells was the goal-hero, the experienced forward finding three of the best to claim a hat-trick and help the Blue Devils break down a stubborn Wanderers team who remain stuck to the bottom of the table.
Belconnen opened their account in the 23rd minute through Regan Walsh, and Wells was to get his first of the afternoon some thirteen minutes later as the Blue Devils took a 2-0 lead into the changing rooms at half-time.
Juan Diaz-Tellez has hit the ground running at Wanderers, and he reduced the arrears in the 64th minute with his second goal in successive games, but that poked the bear and with three minutes Wells had bagged two more, competed a treble, and made sure Belconnen won the points.
At the other end of the table a brace from Sergio Lindner helped White Eagles reignite their top four hopes as they travelled to Ipan Park in Calwell and returned with all three points after a 3-2 win over Brindabella Blues.
Most of the action came in the second stanza as Eagles led 1-0 at the break through a third goal for the club from Ali Sohani. Eagles were to double that lead when Lindner increased their advantage two minutes into the second-half.
The Blues hit back though as Daniel Munoz netted a first of the CPL season from a 67th minute penalty and, when Curtia Schaeffer was on hand to score his eighth goal of the season and restore parity, the top-four chasing Brindabella looked on course for a memorable turnaround.
Only that wasn’t the script that the Eagles had read and, when they were awarded a spot-kick of their own three minutes from full-time, Lindner coolly claimed his eleventh goal of 2025 and all three points for the visitors.
