A goal after twenty-five minutes from Curtis Schaeffer proved enough for Brindabella Blues to continue their Australia Cup Qualifying Round journey as they defeated fellow Capital Premier League outfit White Eagles 1-0 at Calwell Playing Fields on a cool night in South Canberra.
Schaeffer struck twenty minutes before the half-time break, the centre-forward finding himself in the right place at the right time, following in after a shot had been pushed into his path, Schaeffer flicking a smart header into the empty net for this third cup goal in two outings.
The Blues had to play seventy minutes of the encounter with only ten men following the dismissal of Kieran Allen in the twentieth minute for a reckless lunge but scored swiftly thereafter and were able to hang on despite the Eagles best efforts at forcing their way back into the contest.
It was an historic night for Brindabella Blues in every sense as the lone goal success eased the CPL outfit into their first ever Australian Cup Qualifying Quarter Final, the team having neve progressed beyond Round 4 in eight attempts prior to this latest victory.
Brindabella will discover their Quarter Final opponents in the live draw to take place on Monday 14 April at 11am on the Capital Football YouTube channel. The Blues join Yoogali SC, Canberra Croatia, and Gungahlin United who have already booked their spot.
