NPL side Yoogali SC kickstarted their 2025 Hahn Australia Cup Qualifying Campaign with a dominant performance over CPL promotion hopefuls Canberra Juventus, at Hawker Football Centre, moving into the Quarter Finals with a 3-0 win.
Making the five-hour trek from Griffith, Yoogali looked in control early in the clash as they moved possession swiftly around the pitch seeking for an opener. They would find that goal inside ten minutes, as midfielder Joe Preece evaded multiple defenders in the box to send a well-struck curling shot into the bottom corner.
Juventus had chances of their own, Tom Cosentini a bright spark up front for the COL side, and came close to finding the back of the Yoogali goal on multiple occasions. However. Yoogali doubled their lead just over a quarter of an hour in, as import Danny Reid got off the mark with a well-taken goal.
Juventus had chances at the end of the half to pull one back. Adam Brooks saw his headed effort canon onto the crossbar with Callum Johnstone sending the rebounded effort narrowly over.
The visitors made a change at the break, as Luke Armanini stepped into goal for Michael De Paoli. The young shot-stopper was called into action early, tipping a free-kick over the bar to keep the clean sheet intact for Yoogali.
Early season fatigue began to set in as the game opened up, with chances aplenty. Dylan Barreto hit the outside of the goal off the back of a corner, while Reid and Preece were denied a brace by resilient defending.
Despite having two goals denied for offside, American import Jayce Dotson found the back of the net with just over fifteen minutes to go in the match, sealing a well-earned win on the road for Yoogali and a place in the Qualifying last eight.
