Onto Round 9 in the National Premier League Boys competition as the league tables begin to take shape and the push for finals football becomes a possibility for many of those lining up each weekend. This is what happened in Canberra and the surrounding region in the latest round of action.
NPL14
Vincent Burton and Chigozie Ogbonnaya scored twice each as Belconnen United defeated Wagga City Wanderers 5-3 in an exciting match at Kaleen Enclosed as the NPL14 competition reached Round 9. Isaac Carroll scored twice for the defeated Wanderers. There were braces for Hilary Pius and Daniel Mirchev as Monaro Panthers saw off Woden Valley 5-0, Canberra Olympic also hit five in a comfortable win over Radford College, whilst there were no goals in the Brindabella Blues fixture against West Canberra Wanderers. Elsewhere, Ayomikun Oyedale and Alex Matta netted a pair of goals each as Gungahlin United won 6-0 away at Majura FC to complete the Saturday fixtures. On Sunday, goals from Albert Mackintosh and Seb Lukasik helped give Canberra Croatia a 2-1 win away to Tigers FC, and five different players netted for O’Connor Knights in their dominant away win over Tuggeranong United.

First-half goals from Sobham Ray and Xavi Labutte helped Gungahlin United to a narrow 2-1 away win over Majura FC in the NPL15 division with Kian Keyvan replying for the defeated hosts. Radford College claimed the points with a superb 2-1 away win over Canberra Olympic, Ciaran Lau scored two for Brindabella Blues as they romped to a 6-0 win over ten-man Woden Valley, and Lucas Carbonell was also on the scoresheet twice for Belconnen United as they claimed the win over Wagga City Wanderers by the odd-goal in five at Kaleen. Logan Volkert nabbed a hat-trick including one from the penalty spot as O’Connor Knights won 4-0 away to Tuggeranong United at Kambah 2, and Dylan Bates was on target twice for Tigers FC as they drew a thriller 3-3 against Canberra Croata, Cooper San Juan netting two for the visiting team, the second of which was the 80th minute equaliser.

There were seven different goalscorers for Belconnen United as they hammered Wagga City Wanderers 7-2 in the NPL16 league match played at Kaleen Enclosed, Beau Wikitera bagging a brace for the visiting team. Zayn Varma, Gabriel Punturiero, and Musa Bouhafs were the goal heroes for Woden Valley in their 3-1 away win over Monaro Panthers, and Elwin Milolo grabbed two for Brindabella Blues seven in their comfortable home win over West Canberra Wanderers. Goals galore meanwhile for Canberra Olympic who netted ten in a rampant win over Radford College, Adam Przydacz and Sebastian Anderson helping themselves to hat-tricks, Benjamin Both scoring two. Tigers FC showed their claws in midweek with an 11-0 hammering of West Canberra Wanderers with Daniel Poole scoring a first-half hat-trick and Anthony Grgic following suit after the break, completing his treble in twelve minutes of match action. A 71st minute goal from Cristiano Subasic saw Canberra Croatia gain a 4-3 win over Tigers FC in a match that swung in the direction of both teams, and O’Connor Knights scored two in each half as they won 4-1 against Tuggeranong United at Kambah 2.

Mason Fardell was on target twice, once from the penalty spot, as Canberra Olympic eased to a 3-0 win over Majura FC in the NPL18 league, a result duplicated by Brindabella Blues, for whom Denis Zimba netted two, as they defeated West Canberra Wanderers. Belconnen United recovered from 0-2 down at home to inflict a 4-2 loss on Wagga City Wanderers, the Blue Devils showing remarkable powers of recovery to overturn the deficit and claim the points. Monaro Panthers and Woden Valley shared the spoils at South Jerrabomberra Regional Sporting Complex, Musa Bouhafs equalising for the visitors after William Connolly had fired Panthers in front. Jimmy Nguyen, Noel Bartone, and Noah Souverain scored for Canberra Croatia in their 3-1 away win over Tigers FC, whilst Gungahlin United led 3-0, were pegged back to 3-3, and then saw Noah Hewitt net the matchwinner four minutes from full-time in an epic 4-3 win over Majura FC. On Sunday at Kambah 2, a solitary goal from Rafael Rodrigues was enough for O’Connor Knights to edge out Tuggeranong United 1-0.
