Timberwolves FC 9 (Matt Zeitlhofer 9′, 21′, Thomas Cosentini 11′, 27′, Tony Aleksovski 17′, Sam Carters 18′, 22′, Steven Zardo 19′, Ben Harrington 22′) def. Boomerangs FS 5 (Elie Darwich 14, 34′, Jayde James-Ward 30′, 37′, Lior Kalisse 40′)
A dominant performance from Timberwolves FC saw them finish big winners in a high-scoring Round 8 match, as they defeated Boomerangs 9-5.
A fast start was the catalyst for Timberwolves, as they scored after nine minutes through Matt Zeitlhofer before Thomas Cosentini added to the lead two minutes later. Elie Darwich pulled Boomerangs back into the match with a goal six minute ahead of half-time, but Sam Carters, Steven Zardo and Tony Aleksovski all added goals in a devastating three-minute barrage ahead of half-time to blow out the scoreline at the break.
Zeitlhofer scored in the opening minute of the second half and Carters completed his brace moments later to put their foot on the throat of Boomerangs, and when Ben Harrington and Cosentini added goals before the thirty minute mark the match looked like it could develop into a cricket score. However Boomerangs hung in to pull a few back, with Jayde James-Ward netting a brace in the final ten minutes, while Darwich added another and Lior Kalisse touched up the scoreline in the final minute of play.
Canberra Olympic Superprawns 5 (Jeremy Habtemariam 8′, 17′, Goran Josifovski 15′, 37′, Trent Flanigan 19′) def. HNK O’Connor Knights 2 (Danny Krajacic 25′, 26′)
A four-goal first half from Canberra Olympic Superprawns proved too much for O’Connor Knights in Round 8, as the Superprawns ran out 5-2 winners.
Jeremy Habtemariam broke the deadlock eight minutes in as Olympic applied pressure, and Goran Josifovski and Trent Flanigan scored either side of Habtemariam’s second late in the half to ensure they reached the break with a healthy four-goal lead.
Knights came out firing in the second half however, and Danny Krajacic set up an intriguing final ten minutes with a two-minute brace to cut the lead in half. That was as far as Knights got though and they struggled from there on to break down the Superprawns defence. Josifovski rounded out the scoring with five minutes to go as he sealed the match and confirmed another win for his side.
NC Untouchables Navy 2 (Jason Farrell 4′, Matthew Corey 40′) def. Boomerangs FS White 0
Goals at either end of the match sealed three points for Untouchables Navy in Round 8 as they finished with a 2-0 clean sheet win over Boomerangs White.
Jason Farrell got Untouchables off to the perfect start as he scored just four minutes in to take the ascendancy, and Boomerangs struggled to get into the game on the offensive end. The difference at the break remained only a goal, and the second half continued to be a tight affair with neither side able to gain the upper hand.
But as Boomerangs pushed forward in search of an equaliser it opened them up for Untouchables, and in the final minute of play Matthew Corey struck to seal the game and three points for his side.
