Men FPL SF1 (1v4): 7pm – Canberra Olympic Superprawns vs. Boomerangs FS Blue
The 2016 Futsal Premier League finals series will begin as the Canberra Olympic Superprawns face Boomerangs Blue in a first v fourth showdown. The Superprawns have been the all-conquering side of this season, dropping points only twice throughout the season as they averaged nearly five goals a game.
The two matches between the sides this season have both gone the way of the Superprawns, with a 5-3 victory in Round 2 followed up in Round 9 by a 3-2 victory as the Superprawns snuck by a determined Boomerangs side.
While the Superprawns have scored their way to glory, the Boomerangs side have had a more reserved approach, scoring fewer goals but also conceding fewer per game.
Three of the best marksman in the league will feature, with Michael Rinaudo (10 goals) of Boomerangs duelling with Robbie Cattanach (10) and Pat Ross-Magee (11) in a battle of serious firepower.
Men FPL SF2 (2v3): 8pm – Belconnen United FC vs. North Canberra Untouchables FC Red
The second semi-final will see Belconnen United take on North Canberra Untouchables Red to face the winner of the first match.
Second-placed Belconnen have fought hard all season led by league joint top-scorer Taylor Beaton (11 goals), but have struggled on the defensive end, conceding the most goals of any side taking part in the finals. It makes up for an intriguing contest however, with Belconnen’s firepower paired with the more defensive Untouchables.
Nathaniel De Hoog has led the way in scoring for Untouchables Red with nine goals so far, however they have scored fewer goals than all but two teams in the competition. This has shown on the defensive end, with a commitment to keeping the goals out leading them to a league-best defensive record by a margin of four goals.
The one matchup between the sides this season saw a comfortable Belconnen United victory in Round 4, as the Blue Devils ran out 5-2 winners. Proceedings are unlikely to be quite so straightforward this time however as both sides lock down for finals and look to make their chances.
