How was pre-season training for your team?
Whether this season was going ahead was a big question mark for not only us, but also obviously for the wider Futsal competitions. Understandably, there were ongoing difficulties with the confirmation of start dates, and the delays naturally made it difficult with our players to remain motivated as a group to train.
Thankfully when the season got the green light, there was a sense of renewed passion and excitement within the group. Our team is just simply a group of life-long best friends, and our trainings are great opportunities for us to catch-up, particularly after not being able to see each other during lockdown.
We trained over three times a week on grass, and from start to finish, we strictly played a two hour small sided game. With strong friendships, comes great competitiveness.
How happy are you with how the team is tracking and what are your expectations for the team this season?
So far, so good. But worth noting, Soccer FC have also experienced three years of undefeated starts, only to choke on the final few weeks to throw the title to the inevitable favourites – the Boomerangs.
As with all teams, each week, we hope to continue placing strongly on the ladder. But with a variety of new teams in the FPL, it’s difficult to see past week by week. As always, Soccer FC will take it one game at a time.
What excites you the most about this FPL season?
The number of new teams and faces.
A few years ago, Soccer FC were lucky enough to receive an invitation to play in the FPL given our Division 1 performances. However, it initially felt like an exclusive group of FPL teams.
We believe opening the registration process to any team, can only further benefit this competition, as well as give opportunities for any Canberran to compete at the highest level of Futsal that our state has to offer.
Additionally, the entire Soccer FC team have been selected to represent the ACT at Futsal Nationals in Brisbane late January.
It’s mind boggling to imagine years ago, that a group of high-school friends with limited football ability jokingly created a social team called “Soccer Football Club”, but then proceeded to joke too far and suddenly we are representing the ACT.
