FPL Semi-Final Review
The Capital Football Men’s Futsal Premier League Semi-Finals took place at ANU Sports Centre last night, as the top teams battled it out for a spot on the Grand Final.
Wildcats 5 def. North Canberra Untouchables 0
Having topped the table unbeaten all season, Wildcats continued their incredible form with a dominant semi-final over the North Canberra Untouchables.
Nick Dahl opened the scoring for Wildcats two minutes into the encounter, as Michael Rinuado whipped the ball in from the sideline with Dahl smashing the ball home first-time for the opener.
Wildcats would have their second just over halfway into the opening 20 minutes, as Rinuado intercepted a mishit back pass before squaring the ball to Will Manalo, who calmly slotted the ball into the goal.
Jayde James-Ward made it three goals for Wildcats five minutes from halftime, rounding off a period of excellent pressure from his side.
Wildcats finished the game off early into the second half as Rinaudo got two goals of his own, booking their spot in the Grand Final with a dominant five goal win.
Boomerangs F.S. 2 def by. Soccer FC 3
The second semi-final of the night needed extra-time as Boomerangs F.S. and Soccer FC played out a thriller.
Boomerangs opened the scoring just over five minutes into the game as goalkeeper Nick Van Aalst charged forward with the ball, laying it off to James Wilson who found the back of the net for the opener.
Soccer FC responded minutes later as Ed McCarthy got his first of the night, tucking the ball past Van Aalst.
There would not be anymore goals until late in the second half, as Boomerangs got back in front thanks to Jake Wilsener.
Picking up the ball after a well-timed tackle on halfway, Wilsener launched forward before slamming the ball home to give Boomerangs the lead with little over five minutes left in regulation time.
It mattered little however, as McCarthy got his second of the night, firing home from a corner a minute later.
Just before the break in extra-time, McCarthy rounded off his hattrick, again slamming the ball home and sealing the win for his side.
Soccer FC will now face Wildcats in the Grand Final next week.
