Eight Canberra based players have been called up to represent their country following a busy representative program of matches recently.
FFA Head Coach of the Under 17 Women’s National Team, Ante Juric, has selected a trio of local ACT players for the first Junior Matildas Camp that will take place at the AIS in Canberra from Thursday 14th July to Tuesday 19th July 2016. CU Academy U17 players Karly Roestbakken and Sarah Morgan are joined by CU Academy U15 players Cecilija Matic with the fourteen-year-old rewarded for a successful NTC and FFA National Youth Championships campaign.
FFA will finalise the player list for the second camp shortly, which will also take place at the AIS Canberra between Sunday 24th and Thursday 28th July. The camps are being used as preparation for the AFC U-16 Women’s Championships which will take place in Vietnam from 19th/20th August to 4th September 2016.
Meanwhile, Pararoos Head Coach Kai Lammert has selected an 18-player squad for a three-day training camp in preparation for the upcoming World Championships Qualification Tournament being held in Denmark later this month, a squad which includes ACT player Cameron Gudgeon.
The International Federation for Cerebral Palsy Football (IFCPF) World Championships Qualification Tournament will comprise 13 countries and run from 29 July to 7 August to determine which eight teams make it through to the 2017 World Championships in Argentina. The draw for the qualification tournament was held last month with Australia grouped alongside Scotland and Spain.
The recongition for the Junior Matildas and Gudgeon comes on the back of the news that three local products were selected for the Joeys in their under-16 AFF Championship Qualifiers in Cambodia. Kai Trewin, James Fletcher and Ben Obst all received the call-up for the tournament. Having been seeded third for the ASEAN tournament the Joeys were drawn in Group A and have been pitted against Myanmar, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam and the Philippines. The top two teams from each pool will progress straight to the semi-finals, with the Joeys hoping to improve on last year’s third place finish.
Meanwhile, Canberra Olympic goalkeeper Angelo Konstantinou continues to take part in the Futsalroos FIFA Futsal World Cup preparations hoping for selection for the tournament to be held in Colombia in September.
