A lead consultant has been selected to prepare an Estate Development Plan and Master Plan Design for Canberra’s new Home of Football in Throsby.
SMEC Australia Pty Ltd has begun designing the new state-of-the-art facility which will provide Canberran’s with world-class indoor and outdoor football facilities in the ACT and support a range of training and competition activities for Canberra’s thriving football community.
The new site will be home to multiple outdoor football fields, indoor futsal courts, office space for Capital Football staff and associated amenities.
The Estate Development Plan is scheduled for completion midway through this year. The ACT Government is investing $20 million into the project with Capital Football contributing an additional $4.5 million.
The ACT Government’s Minister for Sport and Recreation, Yvette Berry, said detailed design and construction activities on the Home of Football is scheduled for 2021.
“As Canberra grows, the ACT Government is committed to delivering more sporting facilities to help Canberrans stay active, healthy and engaged in the sports they love,” Ms Berry said.
“This partnership with Capital Football and the Football Federation Australia to deliver the Home of Football brought the Socceroos to Canberra in October last year with a further two fixtures involving the Matildas and Junior Matildas coming later in the year.”
Capital Football CEO Phil Brown said he was delighted to see Canberra’s home of football kick-off.
“Capital Football is excited to see this next phase of the Home of Football development commence,” Mr Brown said. “We look forward to working with the ACT Government in shaping what will be a tremendous facility for football and futsal.”
