The CommBank Emerging Socceroos Championships have hit the pointy end, with the Semi-Finalists in both the Under 15 and Under 16 age groups now confirmed.
With everything on the line, many of today’s matches went down to the wire with several needing penalties to decide a winner. Despite the cooler weather, teams brought the heat, battling with intensity to progress and secure final placings.
Capital Football’s Under 15 squad faced off against Queensland White in the 15’s Play-off Quarter Final, going to down the wire with a penalty shootout. Goals from Anas Elsergany and Andreas Kaskoutas helped to keep the scores even against Queensland, with the team from the sunshine state eventually prevailing.
After finishing second in their group and qualifying for the Quarter Finals, the Capital Football Under 16’s squad came up against a strong NSW Navy side, falling 5-2. Esmail Zahir continued his goal scoring form, scoring twice against NSW to take his tally to four at the tournament.

Semi-Finalists Confirmed
In the Under 15 age group, the all-Victorian Quarter Final between Victoria Blue and Victoria White was decided by a penalty shootout, with Victoria Blue holding their nerve to advance 2-2 (3-2). They will now face Western Australia, who edged Queensland Silver in a gritty, physical contest with their goalkeeper stepping up to score the decisive penalty in dramatic fashion 0-0 (5-4).
On the other side of the draw, Queensland Maroon claimed a narrow 1-0 win over NSW Navy and will take on NSW Sky, who impressed with a 4-2 victory over South Australia.
In the Under 16 competition, NSW Navy booked their place in the Semi-Finals with a dominant 5-2 win over Capital Football, setting up an all-NSW showdown with NSW Sky, who fought back to beat Northern NSW 3-1.
Rounding out the final four, Victoria Blue overcame Queensland Maroon 2-1 and will now face Western Australia, who delivered one of the performances of the tournament to knock out last year’s finalists, South Australia.
Multicultural Community Connects Through the Game
While football has taken centre stage at the Championships this week, a powerful multicultural engagement initiative brought together over 100 young people and families from across Melbourne as part of a special school holiday activation.
Held at La Trobe University, the event saw participants from Melton, Cranbourne, Broadmeadows and local club Heidelberg Stars enjoy MiniRoos clinics, youth and senior matches all in the spirit of connection and inclusion.

“It’s about showing these young people that football is for them — and that the pathway is real,” said Abraham Abraham, Football Australia’s National CALD Program Manager.
“We had Football Australia staff stop by to say hello, have a kick, and chat to the kids and coaches. That kind of interaction can really inspire.”
The event brought together participants from Middle Eastern, Southeast Asian, Sudanese and Ethiopian backgrounds with many visiting the venue for the first time.
“For some of these kids, it’s their first time outside their local suburb,” Abraham added.
“Sometimes it just takes one conversation or one positive experience to set someone on that journey.”
The Professional Football Association (PFA) was also involved to donate over 200 pieces of pre-used football gear including tops, shorts, jackets and boots from A-Leagues clubs to the participants.
The PFA donations came from their partnership with KitAid Australia who facilitate club kit donations to communities in need both around Australia and overseas.
With football as the common language, the activation highlighted the Championships’ broader impact not just on the pitch, but in building stronger, more connected communities through the game.
