For the second year running, Fortem Australia is the chosen charity for the Capital Football Charity Shield.
Scheduled to take place at Gungahlin Enclosed Oval on Saturday March 5, the women’s match kicks off at 4pm between the 2021 NPLW Premiers Canberra Croatia FC and the West Canberra Wanderers. At 6.30pm, last season’s NPL Men’s Premiers Tigers FC will take to the field, in what will no doubt be a fiery affair against the Monaro Panthers.
The Charity Shield is held each year ahead of the NPL season, giving Canberra a taste of what’s to come for the season ahead but also to help raise vital funds for an organisation helping our community.
COO of Fortem Australia Darrin Lincoln said the not-for-profit is grateful to again be the chosen charity.
“All funds donated to us will be used to support the mental health and wellbeing of first responders and their families through our range of services, including wellbeing activities, clinical support and tools to boost mental fitness.”
“It is more vital than ever that we all support our first responders and frontline workers. It has been a time filled with bushfires, floods, and a pandemic, and first responders and frontline workers are exhausted, under psychological distress, and their resilience has taken a major hit. Research also tells us that the rates of severe depression and anxiety in these workers, part way through the pandemic, was 10 and four times higher (respectively) than the general population.
“Fortem Australia is currently raising funds to provide mental health and wellbeing services to more first responders and their families. For details on how to support the people who do so much for us all, head to www.fortemaustralia.org.au.”
