South Canberra Swift moved to second in the Capital Futsal League table as they thumped Queanbeyan-Palerang Power 25-0 in the catch-up game at Daramalan College.
The Swift led by double-figures at half-time and would have had plenty more had it not been for a wonderful goalkeeping display from Power’s custodian Maja Dodt, who once again made a series of brilliant saves, ably abetted by the woodwork as the Swift struck a combination of post and bar an astonishing twelve times, eleven in the opening stanza.
Isabella Hindmarsh had a little more luck in front of goal as she helped herself to four well-taken strikes inside the first twenty minutes, whilst Golden Boot leader Reilly Yuen netted a hat-trick to take her season total to twenty-five goals at the break.
There was other first-half goals for Sofia Palywoda, who got two, and Alyse Jensen as the Swift led 10-0 as the officials brought the half to a close. At the other end goalkeeper Ellie Summers was rarely troubled, although both Ella Smith and Paige Gregson weren’t afraid to try their luck from range.
The goals continued in the second-half, Yuen adding five more to her tally to move to a magnificent thirty for the season, whilst Hindmarsh ended with seven. Palywoda grabbed a brace as she kept up ger goal a game CFL ratio, whilst ‘keeper Summers, freed from her own area, tapped in from close range.
Samantha Price popped up to add her name to the tally, while the unfortunate Ella Smith put through her own net. Dodt was again immense, making a mountain of saves, and her defence did well, but the Swift’s class shone through.
