Capital Football’s leading men’s and women’s players will take centre stage this October after being confirmed as the inaugural opponents in the Northern NSW Football All-Stars Challenge.
The new annual representative fixture will see Northern NSW Football’s men’s and women’s All-Stars teams take on an invited member federation each year, with Capital Football selected as the first challenger.
The inaugural event will be held at Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility on Saturday 10 October 2026, with Northern NSW representative teams set to travel to Canberra in 2027 as part of a two-year reciprocal agreement.
The All-Stars Challenge follows the successful return of representative football in Northern NSW last year and provides another exciting opportunity for Capital Football’s top players to represent the ACT and surrounding region against quality interstate opposition.
Capital Football CEO Samantha Farrow welcomed the announcement, saying the initiative would strengthen the relationship between the two member federations while providing a meaningful representative opportunity for players.
“We’re delighted to be part of the inaugural Northern NSW Football All-Stars Challenge and to partner with Northern NSW Football on what promises to become a premier annual representative event,” Farrow said.
“The opportunity to represent your region is something players take great pride in, and this event provides our best men’s and women’s players with the chance to test themselves against quality opposition while celebrating the strength of football across both regions.
“We’re looking forward to travelling to Lake Macquarie in October and welcoming Northern NSW Football to Canberra next year as part of what we hope will become a long-standing representative rivalry.”
Northern NSW Football CEO Peter Haynes said the All-Stars Challenge was designed to become a marquee representative event.
“We’ve developed an excellent relationship with Capital Football. We’re excited to welcome them as our inaugural opponents and look forward to travelling to the nation’s capital next year,” Haynes said.
In addition to the men’s and women’s representative fixtures, supporters will also enjoy a curtain-raiser featuring the HIT106.9 Northern League One All-Stars against the Zone Football League All-Stars, showcasing the depth of community football across the Hunter region.
