The draw for the National Youth Championship has given Capital Football a testing set of fixtures at Coffs Harbour this September as the Girls and Boys from the National Capital aim to impress against their peers from interstate.
Such is the nature of the competition that matches come thick and fast for the team’s starting on Monday 19 September as the Girls U16 team face a double-header against NSW White and Northern NSW whilst their U14 counterparts begin with a fixture against NSW Country.
Queensland Maroon are next up for the U16 before they close the group stages on Wednesday with fixtures against South Australia Red and Victoria Blue. The U14 have two matches on the Tuesday, Western Australia and Tasmania providing the opposition before they conclude with a game against Northern Territory a day later.
The Boy’s competition, which begins a week-later sees both the U15 and U14 teams mirroring each other in the fixture lists, both starting with games against Victoria White and South Australia Red.
Further tests against Queensland Maroon, Western Australian Black and NSW Metro Blue will conclude the group stages before the knockout action begins on the Thursday.
“It’s always exciting to get the draw for the competitions as it begins to make everything a little bit more real for the participants,” Capital Football Technical Director Phil Booth commented.
“We have a testing set of fixtures, as you would expect, but for us it’s all about the development of the players and talent identification. We have some superb players making the trip to Coffs Harbour and are sure they will do the region proud.
“Experiencing a tournament such as the National Youth Championship will allow the youngsters to live like a professional footballer for a week, where the emphasis isn’t just on performing during the matches, but recovery, analysis, and everything else that comes with a week of football away from home.
“We are looking forward to the competition and everything that it entails.”
