Capital Football is proud to support two local organisations that work tirelessly to support locals in need, by providing much needed donations to ‘Slabs for Heroes’ and ‘Pam’s Pantry’.
Slabs for Heroes was born in the 2019/20 bushfires to support the Rural Fire Service, but its mission did not end when the flames were extinguished. These days founder Roseanne Howes continues to support a network of pantries and families in crisis, and victims of domestic violence.
Pam Zielke is an active member of the Canberra community and was a finalist for the ABC Community Spirit Award in 2024 for her contributions to helping women and children at Beryl Women Inc. and running her street pantry “Pam’s Pantry”.
On Thursday, 4 December, CEO of Capital Football, Samantha Farrow met with Roseanne and Pam to donate hundreds of footballs and youth football kits (jerseys, shorts and socks) and family passes for Canberra United’s home games to distribute to locals in need through their Christmas hampers initiative.

“The tireless work that both Roseanne and Pam do to support people in need in the Canberra region is phenomenal, we appreciate their efforts and the volunteer hours that go into initiatives like these, and Capital Football are proud to be able to contribute to this worthy cause,” said Farrow.
“We rely on the kindness of local organisations such as Capital Football to donate sporting goods for young people and tickets to sporting games for families. These donations really make a difference for struggling families and single parents as many are trying to cope with the rising cost of living and cannot afford school holiday programs or tickets to sporting games and events,” said Howes, founder of ‘Slabs for Heroes’.
‘Pam’s Pantry’ echoed the sentiment shared by ‘Slabs for Heroes’, sharing their gratefulness for the support from Capital Football.
“The generosity of people in the Canberra area is amazing and that these footballs, kits and tickets donated by Capital Football will be well received by the children and parents we support,” said Zielke.
Farrow hopes that the donations will bring a spark of joy to those families doing it tough during the holiday period, and that they will be able to have an enjoyable experience at a Canberra United match.
“We hope our donation will bring joy to the people receiving these hampers and that parents and their kids have a fun and enjoyable experience at a Canberra United game. We look forward to seeing you there!”
