Capital Football has completed its Expression of Interest (EOI) process to provide a range of football opportunities and allocate fields in the Gungahlin region for 2026, following Gungahlin United FC’s withdrawal from competition.
After assessing submissions from interested clubs, the Capital Football Board has confirmed five clubs to work with on the delivery of football in the Gungahlin region for 2026. These clubs demonstrated the capacity to support displaced players and teams, maintain competition integrity, and contribute to sustainable football activity across the region.
The five clubs confirmed through the EOI process are:
- Belnorth Football Club
- Canberra Olympic FC
- Canberra Juventus FC
- Tigers FC
- Yarabi Football Club
Capital Football thanks all clubs that submitted an EOI, including those not selected through this process, and acknowledges the many offers to support displaced GUFC participants. Several clubs, including Burns FC, Weston Molonglo FC, and Queanbeyan City, have already indicated their willingness to assist. These collective efforts are part of important ongoing efforts as we work to offer football opportunities across the region.
Indicative Field Allocation Decisions
In completing the EOI process, the Board considered the likely programs each club will operate in 2026 and the capacity of regional venues to support these competitions. While final field allocations will be confirmed in early 2026 following review of updated requests and player registration data, the Board has endorsed the following indicative allocations:
- Belnorth FC – Expanded MiniRoos access at Kaleen and additional access to Bonner, in line with assumed GUFC teams and players.
- Canberra Olympic FC – Access to Harrison to support MiniRoos delivery, along with some access to Nicholls. As part of rebalancing ground access across the region, Olympic may see a reduction in some existing inner-north capacity.
- Canberra Juventus FC – Reduced access to Palmerston, with additional access to Lyneham provided to balance club needs.
- Tigers FC – Access to Nicholls in recognition of the GUFC teams and players taken on for 2026.
- Yarabi FC – Expanded access to Palmerston, reflecting the club’s support of former GUFC community league and master’s teams.
Access to GEO for match play remains under consideration and will be determined in line with the competition schedule and season planning.
Next Steps
With the EOI process now complete, Capital Football will work directly with each of the selected clubs on detailed operational planning for 2026. This will include a review of player and team registrations in line with the confirmed field allocations for the 2026 winter season.
Capital Football CEO, Samantha Farrow said:
We’re grateful for the incredible response from clubs across the region. Our main goal throughout this process has been to keep football running for all affected players, while finding solutions that are sustainable and community focused.
This process shows what happens when the football community works together to promote football and focus on player participation. I would particularly like to acknowledge clubs that put their hands up to help, even though they weren’t selected through the EOI. That kind of support shows just how strong and united our football community really is.
Capital Football will provide further updates in early 2026 as field allocations and operational arrangements are finalised.
