Capital Football would like to extend its congratulations to former Matilda and Canberra WNSL-winning Captain Sacha Wainwright on her induction into the FFA Hall of Fame today.
Wainwright made her Australian debut in the U/15 side as a goalscorer in 1986, before her transition to a fullback as she progressed through the ranks.
Sacha picked up her first international cap at just age 22 against Russia in 1994, beginning a 12-year stint in the Matildas that saw her earn 65 international caps including two World Cup tournaments and two Olympic Games.

Wainright was the vice-captain for the Matildas between 2002 and 2004, and captained Canberra to a Women’s National Soccer League Championship in 2002.
FFA CEO David Gallp inducted Wainright alongside former Socceroo Peter Raskopoulos and former International Referee Tammy Ogston and praised each inductee for their contribution to Austraian football.
“Sacha was an integral part of the Matildas playing group representing Australia throughout the nineties, appearung at numerous World Cups and Olympic Games,” he said of Wainwright.
Wainwright grew up in Canberra and represented the ACT for over 18 years at different levels of the game, and both an ACTAS and AIS Scholarship holder for a number of years.
