Canberra United will kick-off the Foxtel Y-League 2018/19 season at home to the Central Coast Mariners, following the release of the full season draw earlier today.
United’s season begins at Deakin Stadium on Saturday, November 10th at 6:30pm against the Mariners, and the United Youth team will be at home again a week later, hosting the Western Sydney Wanderers at the same time at Deakin.
It will be United’s second foray into the league after being admitted last season, and Head Coach Dean Ugrinic said he could not wait to begin the new campaign.
“It’s been a long pre-season and I think we have prepared as well as we possibly can” he said.
“We’ve gone through an extensive selection process and to be honest we are looking forward to kicking things off.”
The home clash to kick off the season will be an entertaining match against the Mariners, who United knocked off last season and Ugrinic admitted it made the air around the season opener that little bit more exciting.
“You’re always looking forward to playing at home, but there’s a sense of excitement amongst the football community in the ACT who are keen to watch this season’s crop play against some of the best young players in Australia.
“Coupled with the positive news generated around our A-League bid, I think we can draw a big crowd.”
Ugrinic’s squad is almost finalised ahead of the season beginning after a gruelling pre-season and the feeling within the players echoes his.
“The players are relishing the intensity of pre-season training but I sense they are ready to move on, and start competing for points.
