Boomerangs FS 3 (Dahl 2, Giovinazzo) defeat North Canberra Untouchables Black 2 (Brokehuyse, Brown)
A second-half double from Final MVP Nicholas Dahl ensured that Boomerangs FS defeated fierce rivals North Canberra Untouchables 3-2 in Capital Football’s 2019/20 Men’s Futsal Premier League Grand Final on Wednesday night.
The two highest-scoring teams of the competition went head-to-head in their first Grand Final match since the 2014/15 season and it was the Boomerangs who took the lead with an element of luck.
In the 10th minute, Daniel Giovinazzo’s strike took a deflection and sailed past a helpless Ray Moon after the Untouchables turned the ball high up the field.
The Boomerangs had a great chance to double their lead through Jayde James-Ward, but Ray Moon saved the one-on-one chance with his legs.
On the other end of the field, Ray Moon’s brother Richard had a great chance to equalise but his shot didn’t trouble by Zachary Sorenson in goals.
The Untouchables’ Ray Moon kept his side in the first half, producing a couple of brilliant saves to deny the Boomerangs their second goal.
The second-half began with a flurry of chances, as Boomerangs’ substitute keeper Nick van Aalst pulled off a great early save to ensure his side kept the lead, stretching out a left leg to deny a shot that looked destined for the bottom corner.
The biggest shock of the match came when Boomerangs’ Benjamin Basser Silk missed an absolute sitter, placing into the side netting with the goal gaping at his mercy.
But the Boomerangs wouldn’t be denied, as Nicholas Dahl made sure of his opportunity on goal a minute after the Untouchables tactical timeout.
The match then took a crazy turn, with three goals scored in a matter of minutes.
Goals from the Untouchables Joshua Brokehuyse and Aidan Brown drew the game level but Dahl’s second goal of the final ensured that the Boomerangs claimed the Grand Final.
