Belnorth FC became the last side to book their place in the Australia Cup Round 5 as they saw off Weston Molonglo FC 3-0 at Greenway Enclosed to move into the Federation Cup Quarter Final draw.
The State League battle was settled in favour of the team from the North thanks to a brace of late goals that added to the one they netted inside the opening forty-five minutes of Aa classic cup encounter.
An intense opening half was fairly even but it was Belnorth who broke the deadlock three minutes before the interval as Josh Argenti found a way past the Magpies defence to convert and send the travelling Belnorth supporters into the half-time break in a happy and excited mood.
This was always likely to be a cup tie that would need more than one goal to decide it, both teams harbouring high ambitions for the forthcoming 2023 league season, and it was Belnorth that grabbed the critical second with fourteen minutes of a pulsating fixture remaining.
Sebastian Ciminelli was the one to make the crucial intervention and, as Weston came looking for an, ultimately futile, route back into the match, they were caught with the classic sucker-punch when Argenti bagged his second and sent Belnorth through to dream another day.
The Australia Cup Round 5 and 6, Federation Cup Quarter Finals and Semi-Finals, draws will take place on Thursday 30 March 2023 at 1pm at the Capital Football Offices and will be streamed live on the Capital Football – Official Facebook page. The draw will be conducted by Russ Gibbs and Frank Cachia.
