Capital Football is continuing to provide football opportunities for players with disabilities in 2023 as we look to increase participation numbers across our inclusive football programs. This year our programs include the Canberra United All-Abilities Academy, an All-Abilities League, and Powerchair. In addition to this, Capital Football will collaborate with schools and clubs to deliver inclusive programs within the community.
Capital Football is seeking expressions of interest for players, coaches, and volunteers interested in participating in the programs listed below in 2023.
CU All Abilities Academy
The Canberra United All Abilities Academy is dedicated to football players with a disability in the ACT. It is open to all footballers with cerebral palsy, an acquired brain injury, or symptoms acquired from a stroke.
The academy is suitable for players looking to improve their football ability through skill-based training that will take place weekly on Monday’s at the Hawker Football Centre between 6pm and 7:30pm.
Beyond the academy, opportunities exist to represent Capital Football at the CP Football Nationals and the FFA National Futsal Championships.
The All-Abilities League provides fun and inclusive match play for players with a disability. Matches take place on Saturday mornings and will run from April through September.
Powerchair Football is a team sport designed specifically for electric wheelchair users. Participants include players with quadriplegia, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, and spinal cord injury.
Training and matches take place on Saturday mornings between 10:00am and 11:30am at the Indoor Hockey Centre in Lyneham.
