Premier League Football got underway for another season in Canberra on Wednesday at the 2017 Capital Football Premier League Season Launch held at the National Arboretum.
With Playstation 4 NPL Capital Football and Playstation 4 NPL Women’s Capital Football clubs in attendance, Tim Gavel welcomed the crowd before Capital Football CEO Phil Brown introduced the season.
This year marks the first year that the Premier Women’s Competition in Canberra will be structured with the Men’s, with the Playstation 4 National Premier League Women’s Capital Football kicking off this Sunday afternoon.
“We are exceptionally proud to launch the PS4 National Premier Leagues for Women and Girls in 2017,” Brown said.
“Following an extensive consultation with the football community in 2016, we have established a competition that offers girls starting from U13 a clear pathway through the NPL to develop as players to one day represent Canberra United and the Matildas.”
The Playstation 4 NPLW Capital Football 2017 Season kicks off this Sunday, with the Match of the Round seeing Canberra FC take on Tuggeranong United at Woden Park enclosed.
The following weekend will see the beginning of the Playstation 4 NPL, with the exciting addition of the Riverina Rhinos spreading the reach of the competition in 2017.
“[This year] we see the broadening of our footballing footprint to include the Riverina Rhinos,” Brown said.
“The Rhinos represent a region that encapsulates Albury, Griffith, Wagga and the South West Slopes.”
“Riverina have been a very successful club in FNSW competitions for some years, and dedicated to the sport, regularly making the 6-hour trip to Sydney for matches,” he said.
“We welcome them to our football family and look forward to the new energy they will no doubt bring to our competition.”
The Rhinos will debut as Round 1 kicks off at 3pm on Saturday the 1st April, with the FFA Centre of Excellence hosting Woden-Weston FC and Riverina facing Canberra FC at Deakin Stadium.
