Stephen Domenici claimed a second straight Golden Boot and doubled it with the Player of the Year at the 2017 Capital Football Awards night on Saturday.
Maddy Whittall took home the PlayStation4 Women’s National Premier League Golden Boot, and shared the Player of the Year title with Tuggeranong United’s Meg McLaughlin.
Domenici moved from Tigers FC to Canberra Olympic for Season 2017, and showed no signs of taking time to gel with his new teammates as he got off to a flyer. A season haul of 27 goals included multiple hat-tricks and one four-goal haul against Woden-Weston early on as Olympic powered towards the Premiership and Federation Cup.
The energetic forward sealed the deal for the table-topping side in the Preliminary Final to advance to the Grand Final, where Olympic were beaten by Belconnen United.
Whittall had a sensational year as the focal point of a dominant Belconnen United attacking line, scoring 30 goals throughout the regular season and then chipping in with two in a semi-final win over Gungahlin United. Whittall shared the Player of the Year award with Tuggeranong’s McLaughlin, who racked up the votes despite missing a number of games through injury and displaying the sensational qualities that saw her win the Golden Boot last year.
