Missed the Women’s National Premier League Round 6? Here’s your wrap-up!
IN A NUTSHELL
A remarkable turnaround by ten-player Canberra Croatia saw a three-goal burst in eight minutes overturn a two-goal deficit and ensure a 3-2 win for the hosts at Deakin Stadium against ANU WFC. Belconnen United won the top-of-the-table match-up with Canberra Olympic thanks to second-half goals from Lauren Preston and Sofia Palywoda, whilst Sarah Whitfield got the winner for West Canberra Wanderers against Tuggeranong United.
GOAL OF THE WEEK
A brilliantly devised chip from Belconnen United midfielder Sofia Palywoda wins the Goal of the Week. The midfield schemer collected a loose ball towards the top of the penalty area and lifted a sublime finish over the back-pedalling Janet King for the vital opener in the summit meeting with Canberra Olympic.
PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK
Her team might have been beaten, but it was an exceptional performance on debut by ANU WFC goalkeeper Georgia Ritchie. The young stopper, signed after her Canberra United Liberty A-League stint had ended, was a solid presence between the posts and she made several fine saves as the University team threatened an upset at Deakin Stadium.
TEAM OF THE WEEK
