Missed the Women’s National Premier League Round 16? Here’s your wrap-up!
IN A NUTSHELL
The top two won again as the top four met in matches in Round 17. Olympic held off Croatia, scoring twice early to help themselves to three points, while the Blue Devils netted early against the Gunners and then netted three more for good measure as they continued to score a plethora of goals. Also amongst the goals was West Canberra Wanderers who battered ANU WFC 5-0.
GOAL OF THE WEEK
A training ground set-piece routine that paid dividends as Belconnen United Alyssa Di-Campli netted her thirteenth of the season in the win over Gungahlin United. The forward emerged from the substitutes bench to get on the end of a free-kick orchestrated by Alyse Jensen and Pearl Tein, the latter’s superb cross magnificently nodded home by Di-Campli.
PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK
Alex Gidis for West Canberra Wanderers gets the nod this week. The pace of the Wanderers was the difference on Sunday when they dominated ANU WFC 5-0. The speedy winger was involved in four of the five goals and was a constant threat on her wing. The two goals are a just reward for a solid season.
TEAM OF THE WEEK
COMING SOON
Canberra Olympic have the week off, so Belconnen will be seeking to take over top spot. Standing in their way is Canberra Croatia. At Deakin. So, no problem there then! Gunners will aim to get back to form when they meet the Wanderers, who scored five in Round 17, so no gimme there either, and ANU WFC and Tuggeranong meet at Hawker Football Centre with both aiming for a rare win.
