Missed the Men’s National Premier League Round 6? Here’s your wrap-up!
IN A NUTSHELL
A welcome return to form for those of a Canberra Croatia persuasion as they defeated Canberra Olympic to win the ‘Canberra Classico’, Archie McGregor put on a goalscoring show for Tigers FC as they kept Yoogali SC winless at the bottom by taking all three points from Solar Mad Stadium, Tuggeranong United stubbornly held Monaro Panthers to a draw at the Riverside, whilst the weather won the Knights versus Gunners match – Woden Park deemed unplayable on Sunday.
GOAL OF THE WEEK
On a weekend where the weather was tough and conditions difficult, our Goal of the Week made good use of a slick surface. Monaro Panthers were trailing at the break but levelled when Patrick Mitchell’s header found substitute Tyson Livermore. The forward spun and released Ben Basser-Silk who played the perfect pass for Livermore to run onto and divert into the net for a finely taken equaliser.
PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK
A four-goal haul away from home in the NPL is a rare thing. To score all four of your team’s goals, equally so. But Archie McGregor achieved the feat as Tigers FC won 4-0 away at Yoogali, four ‘proper’ striker’s goals, being in the right place at the right time to finish off some excellent Tigers moves. The young gun certainly roared in Griffith.
TEAM OF THE WEEK
COMING SOON
The BBQ Derby between O’Connor Knights and Canberra Olympic seems intriguing, both at opposite ends of the scale in terms of form right now, the pair meet at O’Connor this weekend. Tigers FC and Gungahlin should provide plenty of goals in their Round 7 match, Tuggeranong will seek to move onto double figures when they welcome Yoogali SC to Kambah, whilst Monaro Panthers head to Deakin Stadium to test Canberra Croatia’s resurgence.
