Narrabundah Football Club’s Kathryn Yuile is the Summerland Football Club Hero of the Month for March, after she was nominated by a fellow club member.
Kathryn was nominated for her role in creating Narrabundah’s first women’s team, which has now grown from just two teams in state league in to five teams, including a Women’s Masters side.
During Female Football Week, Kathryn was instrumental in the organization of a Narrabundah run event, with local women’s teams from Canberra coming together for a series of friendly matches that raised over $1200 for local organization Karinya House.
Kathryn played football for eight years before stopping when she was 16 but got back into the game on the other side of the fence in 2007.
“My partners Mum got me back into Football, and I began getting more involved in club administration around 2009.”
“I looked after three Women’s teams for one of the bigger clubs in Canberra, but we felt a bit underdone in terms of support and equipment.”
“We started looking for another club and came across Narrabundah, at that stage a small club with no female teams. So we took our (at the time) two teams to Narrabundah in 2013, and we’ve grown in the five years since, Narrabundah is a really special club with a great sense of community.
As the Vice-President of the club and in charge of all football administration for the Female arm of the club, Kathryn said she was honoured to be nominated and receive the award for March.
“It is pretty special, and I guess because I have done it for a while there’s an expectation that I’ll always be around and do it – which I probably will because I can’t help myself,” she laughed.
“But the players and members of the club, particularly the girls who I’ve been with for many years always make me feel valued and my efforts don’t go unnoticed.”
“They are a really special bunch of people – like family, and they make it all worthwhile, I couldn’t imagine playing football with anyone else!”
All winners of the Club Hero monthly awards will be invited to the Capital Football end of season Awards function, where the 2018 Summerland Club Hero of the Year will be announced.
