Wagga City Wanderers moved to within touching distance of the top four of the Capital Premier League with a 5-2 home win over White Eagles at Gissing Oval in the only match played in the division on the weekend.
Wanderers were ahead early on as Naser Smoqy opened the scoring in the fifteenth minute of the match and it was 2-0 before half-time as Zac Steele scored the first of his two on the day,
Steele was to grab a second, and his fourth of the season three minutes after the restart as Wagga City took control of the match, before Ali Sohani was able to pull one back for the Eagles with nineteen minutes remaining.
That precipitated a flurry of goals in the final stages of the contest with Kade Lyons securing the points with his sixth goal of the CPL season. An own goal from Jack Murray in the final minute gave Wagga second successive large home win, Damien Kennedy’s stoppage time goal a consolation for the travelling Eagles.
