Canberra Olympic salvaged a point from a 2-2 draw at home to Belconnen United in the heavyweight clash at O’Connor Enclosed as the Capital Premier League reached Rouns 3 on the weekend.
Olympic had taken the lead in the fixture thanks to another goal from Mate Barisic, the striker bagging his fourth goal of the season to break the deadlock, but Olympic entered the changing rooms at half-time a goal up and a man down as Nikola Barisic was dismissed for accruing a second yellow card.
And Belconnen took full advantage, scoring twice within nine minutes through Patrick O’Rourke and Pedro Serrano, but Olympic were to hit back with five minutes to go as the ten men levelled the fixture through an Antoni Timotheou penalty.
White Eagles crept up into second place in the early league standings as they swept aside a winless West Canberra Wanderers with a 4-0 success at Woden Park, the visiting team yet to score a goal this season.
There were two goals in each half for both Abderrahim Dellahi and Sergio Lindner, Dellahi getting the match off and running just before the half-hour, and Lindner scoring with five minutes of the half left.
Dellahi had his second three minutes after the resumption and Lindner rattled home his fifth league goal of what is promising to be a productive season with a quarter of an hour to go.
Brindabella Blues are sitting in third after the team from Calwell emerged with all three points from their match with ANU FC, the 3-2 win the Blues second of the season and seeing the University side dropped from second to sixth.
Jonathan John opened the scoring in the seventh minute for the visiting team, and when Curtis Schaeffer doubled the advantage in the 55th minute, the Blues were well on course for the win.
Andre Oliveira pulled one back for ANU FC ten minutes later, only for Scheaffer to restore the two-goal cushion with five minutes to play. Jack Gibson made for a nervy last few minutes when he scored ANU’s second, but Blues held on for an excellent away win.
Tom Cosentini was at the double for Canberra Juventus as they secured a second win of the 2025 season with a 3-1 win over Wagga City Wanderers at Ainslie Oval.
After a goalless first-half Cosentini opened the scoring with a coolly taken penalty four minutes into the second half, and the striker added a second only six minutes later as Juventus took control of proceedings.
Morris Kadzola pulled one back in the 73rd minute to offer hope to the men from the Riverina but it was nullified when Eliseo Castro sealed the points with the clock ticking over to ninety minutes.
