Belconnen United continued to lead the Capital Premier League as they visited the Riverina and came away with an excellent 6-2 away victory at Kessler Park over Wagga City Wanderers.
The visiting team were 3-0 up by the half-time break, making sure that the Wanderers were on the back foot from the opening moments and leading when Jake Bishop scored after seventeen minutes.
By the time Jayde James-Ward netted his first of the afternoon, and Bishop made it three, the Blue Devils were cruising. Kade Lyons pulled one back early in the secon0half, but James-Ward added two more in quick succession to restore the cushion.
Lyons added his tenth of the season to pull one back, for the Wanderers, but there was still time for Tupaia Ringi to add to the total for Belconnen and keep the league leaders ahead of the chasing pack.
Canberra Juventus hopes of pushing into the top three took a dent as they were unable to make any ground on ANU FC as the University side and the host drew 2-2 at Ainslie Oval.
Jack Gibson extended his Golden Boot lead by giving ANU the lead in only the third minute of the match, but it was a short-lived advantage as Micheal Adams, who has hit the ground running at Juventus, levelled four minutes later.
ANU then gave themselves the lead again, Nicholas Hope scoring his third goal of the campaign, but Adams was to rescue Juventus again, this time with eleven minutes to play as he netted his third goal in two games to earn the point.
Brindabella Blues missed the chance to close the gap in Juventus as they were held to a 3-3 draw by West Canberra Wanderers at Melrose Synthetic, the Blues securing a draw in stoppage time.
Riley Williams had given the Blues the lead in the first-half, but Wanderers hit back through a goal from Juan Diaz-Burgos. Curtis Schaeffer restored the lead for the Blues, only for Juan Diaz-Tellez to draw the match level again.
Incredibly, with a minute to go Danel Fox put Wanderers in front, and they looked set for a second win of the season, only for Schaeffer to level it in stoppage time and earn a point.
On Sunday afternoon, Canberra Olympic made sure that they kept up the pressure on the league leaders by taking out a hard-fought 1-0 win over White Eagles at Woden Park.
A single goal was enough to secure the win for Olympic, netted two minutes past the hour mark as Bailey Sorensen scored his second goal of the season which leaves Olympic within touching distance of top spot.
Both teams belied hard conditions to put on a tough contest in the rain, Olympic seeing it through.
