Queanbeyan City moved into the Australia Cup Qualifying semi-finals with a 2-0 win over Brindabella Blues at South Jerrabomberra Regional Sporting Complex in front of a large crowd.
The National Premier League side scored in both halves against the gallant Capital Premier League outfit to make their way into the last four of the competition for the first time in their history.
The Blues gave a great account of themselves and were very much still in the fixture deep into the second-half of the contest before Argentinean central defender Nahuel Guerrero rose highest to meet a corner and thump home a header with six minutes remaining.
Queanbeyan had taken the lead midway through the first-half in bizarre circumstances. Marko Savkovic sent a searching ball down the right flank for Thomas Blazevski to chase, the rapid teenage striker heaping the pressure on covering Blurs defender Daniel Munoz.
Munoz placed a back-pass in the direction of goalkeeper Rhys Flissinger, unfortunately without looking, and Flissinger had come to collect. The pass was misdirected and rolled into the gaping goal for an own goal.
Brindabella responded well and sought a way back into the cup tie, but City were able to secure their semi-final spot close to full-time. Nico Abot swung in an inch-perfect corner which was met by the forehead of Guerrero, his downward heard giving Flissinger no chance.
