Gungahlin United make the trip across the border to High Street and a match-up with Queanbeyan City on Saturday afternoon in Round 10 of the National Premier League having won just once in their last nine matches in all competitions in 2025.
City, who currently sit fifth in the league table will be seeking the three points to push them into the top four should near neighbours Monaro Panthers do them a favour against Tuggeranong United on Sunday afternoon.
The two goals scored against Tuggeranong in the 2-4 loss that Gungahlin suffered last time out was only the third time this season that they have scored multiple goals in a game. By contrast, before the midweek match with Tuggeranong, Queanbeyan had scored in each of the last seven games played in all competitions.
The league meeting at High Street earlier in the season was the first meeting between the clubs in the NPL and ended in an entertaining 0-0 draw, but with both teams desperate for the points, we can probably expect a winning outcome wither way at the final whistle.
In what is only Tuggeranong United’s third home match of 2025, the men from the South welcome Monaro Panthers to Kambah 2 on Sunday afternoon, seeking an improvement in front of goal that cost them a maximum return from their midweek clash with Queanbeyan City.
The teams have met 25 times in the NPL with Panthers having won nine, Tuggeranong ten, with six draws, however in the ten matches at Kambah, Tuggeranong has won seven, Panthers have won twice and there has been one draw.
The contrast in form for Panthers could not be more marked from home and away. In away matches in 2025 Monaro Panthers have managed to score just three goals, one against Queanbeyan and two against Tigers. At home the Panthers have blasted 28 goals ins six fixtures.
Last Season Monaro beat Tuggeranong just once in four matches played, the cup semi-final. In the other three, Tuggeranong won one and two were drawn and, with United having been held to a stalemate in their opening two home matches of 2025, and in five of their nine clashes this term, it would be no surprise if it was honours even.
Title chasing Tigers FC will be heavily favoured to continue their impressive recent run of form when they welcome the struggling O’Connor Knights to the Australian Institute of Sport on Saturday.
It has been a tough few weeks for the Knights who have seen multiple players depart the squad with little on the way of incoming during the June transfer window, a side shorn on confidence, now shorn on numbers and relying on their spirit and commitment to the cause to turn around an ailing campaign.
Tigers are unbeaten in their last seven matches in the NPL, their form a far cry from the opening of the season when they picked up just one point from the first four available after a draw at Yoogali and a heavy loss away to Monaco.
When the teams met in Round 2 the Tigers kick-started their season with a comprehensive 4-0 victory at O’Connor Enclosed, Archie McGregor netting two with Augustine Bangura and Tomohiro Ogawa completing the scoring. Ali Efe and his team will expect more of the same.
Round 10 is completed by Yoogali SC hosting league leading Canberra Croatia at Solar Mad Stadium in Griffith on Sunday afternoon, the title-chasing red machine completing a tough sequence of matches that has seen them take on the Knights in the Croatian derby, Queanbeyan in the cup final and the Panthers in midweek.
Croatia have managed to build up a substantial six-point lead at the top of the table and can afford a slip-up, yet it is becoming increasingly difficult to see where this might occur considering their form in recent weeks.
Croatia romped to a 6-1 win over their opponents when the pair met at Deakin Stadium earlier in the season, Nick Pratezina scoring twice, two of his impressive return of nine goals so far in the league this term.
Yoogali are currently off the foot of the table on goal difference alone but have performed better than some of their results have suggested and, at home, are a force to be reckoned with. They will need to hit the ground running to ruffle Croatian feathers but will certainly make life difficult for the title favourites.
