Canberra Croatia will face off against Belconnen United in the 2025 Women’s Federation Cup Final at McKellar Park, a repeat of the 2024 fixture in which the Blue Devils emerged victorious.
The two sides are no strangers to meeting on the big occasions, having met nine times previously in finals and cup competitions. Belconnen have the majority, with six wins, whilst Croatia has two, with one match ending in a draw which Croatia won on penalties.
Scott Conlon’s side are no strangers to the Cup Final stage, having won the last two and will be hoping to add a third successive Federation Cup success to the trophy cabinet.
Having appeared in nine of the last ten cup finals, and winning eight, Belconnen have scored an average of three goals a game on the big stage.
With their current NPLW form seeing them have scored an astonishing 48 goals already this season, Conlon will be hoping for more of the same as they head into the Cup decider against a Croatia side that has conceded zero goals in the cup so far, and seven in the league, same as Belconnen.
Form in this fixture also sides with the Blue Devils, undefeated in the last seven encounters against Croatia, in all competitions.
For Croatia, this is their third final in five seasons, and first for new Head Coach Musie Elongo, as they look to reverse the heartbreak suffered at the hands of Belconnen this time last year.
It’s just the fourth time ever that Croatia have played in the cup showdown, with their sole win coming in 2021 over West Canberra Wanderers.
While Elongo is preparing for his first showdown as head coach, his assistant coach Nik Brozinic is no stranger to this stage, having been the architect for Croatia’s success four years ago.
Croatia have not won in their last three visits to McKellar, but were victorious in the three matches immediately prior to that at the Blue Devils’ home.
While the form guide heavily flavours the Blue Devils, unbeaten in four last season with three wins, and would almost certainly have them as the favourites, cup football is known for throwing out some magical moments, that defy all reason and logic.
