Fran Sankey has been elected as the new Chair of Capital Football with Angelo Konstantinou to serve as the Deputy Chair.
She takes over the position from Mark O’Neill, who stepped down from the position earlier this month after six years in the role.
Fran is just the second female chair of Capital Football after Rachel Harrigan, and is a trailblazer for Women’s Football in the Canberra region.
A connection with Canberra football is an integral part of who Fran is. She has been involved in the Canberra Football community for over 25 years as a player, parent, coach and administrator.
She has been a Director on the Capital Football Board since 2013 and is a member of the inaugural FFA Women’s Football Council.
Fran Sankey says “It’s a great honour to be elected Chair of Capital Football and I feel very privileged to lead the Board for the next 12 months and hopefully into the future.”
“I’ve worked closely with outgoing Directors and former Chairs, Mark O’Neill and Peter Maybury over many years and want to personally acknowledge and thank them for their support and significant contributions to Capital Football and our football community.
Fran feels that our grassroots football underpins the success of our participation and premier level competitions, “It’s central to our business and decision-making; it’s about the whole football community. We want it to be a quality experience for all involved.”
She says one of the key priorities of the Board is to re-connect with the football community. A step towards that goal being the election to the Board of two new members, Gary Vandeburgt and Grace Gill who will bring a new and fresh perspective to our strategic planning process.
