Kanga Cup was awarded the 2017 Minister for Sport and Recreation’s Award for Event Excellence, following the hugely successful 2017 running of the Southern Hemisphere’s largest Junior football tournament.
Run once more by the Kanga Cup Organising Committee on behalf of Capital Football, Kanga Cup saw 373 teams from across Australia and the World come to Canberra to take part in a week-long festival of football, fun and friendship.
Tournament Director Megan Salic said that the award was sound recognition of the work put into the event, not only in 2017 but every year preceding.
“As a committee we are delighted that Kanga Cup is receiving this recognition from the ACT Government, who we would also like to thank for the support of this event,” she said.
“But this event would not run the way it does without our brilliant volunteers who brave the cold mornings, the local football clubs who host for the week at their grounds, and the staff in the office who keep things ticking over.”
“A big thanks must also go to our partners JT Sports Tours and Project Clothing, whose support is so important to keeping Kanga Cup running year to year.”
The 2017 Kanga Cup contributed $5.2M of economic uplift to the ACT economy, a huge contribution for the five day event to make.
Thanks to the Kanga Cup organising committee, Kanga Cup continues to go from strength to strength, and the 2018 event promises to be biggest and best one yet.
