Canberra United Academy

The Canberra United (CU) Academy represents the Capital Football High Performance Program which, in the absence of a Hyundai A-League team in Canberra, is a key step in aligning with the FFA talented player pathway and Academy structures in other States and Territories.

The structure and function of the Academy therefore conforms to expectations outlined in the FFA national technical strategy. The CU Academy caters for players from the ACT and the surrounding region. The model is similar to the FFA Centre of Excellence. The CU Academy programs are for boys from 9 – 17 years of age and for girls from 10 – 17 years of age.

What is the Talent Identification Process?

Talent ID for the CU Academy is conducted in a variety of ways. The process is ongoing and not finite nor limited to any window or period of time. Entry and exit points for the program are also considered open, i.e. a player can enter or exit the program at any time. Talent ID is conducted in six main ways:

  1. PS4 NPL Match Scouting (CF TD and/or Coach)
  2. PS4 NPL Club TD endorsement
  3. PS4 NPL Club Coach endorsement
  4. Invited into CU Academy short term training environment via external endorsement (parent/former club/association/zone/state program)
  5. Open trial or camp
  6. Invitation only trial or camp
