Women’s Futsal Premier League Grand Final | 6:30pm
Boomerangs FS v NCU Navy
1st meets 2nd in the big dance this Wednesday night, with Boomerangs and NCU Navy separated by only three points on the ladder and winning through from their semi-finals. Boomerangs didn’t mess around with a 7-1 victory over Canberra FC, while it was a bit tighter for NCU as they snuck past Wanderers 2.0 by a goal.
This Boomerangs side is made up of a number of members from the Belconnen United side that triumphed in last years Grand Final, but this year they will be trying to bring Boomerangs their first WFPL championship since 2013/14. Rachael Corbett and Nicole Jalocha have scored 12 goals apiece to help propel Boomerangs to the best offensive record in the league with 59 goals scored in 13 matches. They have also shown the ability to lock down at the other end, conceding only 10 times in those matches on their way to a massive goal difference of +49.
Their opponents have hardly missed a beat as well though, trailing in goals scored by only four and conceding only three more times across the season on their way to a second placed finish. Alice Churchill leads the scoring for NCU Navy with 12 goals as well, and eight individuals who have contributed to the scoring throughout the season. The season series currently sits tied across four matches, with a win each and two draws, meaning this final serves as something of a tiebreaker for the season, outside the small matter of it deciding the Championship.
Men’s Futsal Premier League Grand Final | 7:30pm
Prawns v Timberwolves FC
The top two sides meet in the Men’s Grand Final as well, with runaway Premiers Prawns taking on a Timberwolves side who finished 12 points in arrears of them after 12 games. Golden Boot winner Stephen Domenici led the line for Prawns during the season to finish with 22 goals up to the final, but all of his teammates have added to the scoreboard at least once during the campaign. Prawns are looking to secure their fourth straight Championship, and a seventh Grand Final win from seven appearances in the past eight seasons, an incredible stint at the top.
Timberwolves will be up against a side on an 11-match winning streak and who are undefeated during the season, and snuck through their semi-final last week on penalties against Untouchables. Behind Domenici, Timberwolves’ possess the second and third highest goal scorers in the league, with Ash Blount and Thomas Zeitlhofer combining for 29 goals across the season. Like Prawns, Timberwolves have had an even spread of goal scorers with nine also finding the back of the net, and have an almost identical defensive record to tonight’s opponents having conceded only one goal more.
