Capital Football’s program for Athletes with a Disability, Football Connect, was awarded a Commendation for Inclusion in Education & Training at the 2017 Chief Minister’s Inclusion Awards on Thursday night.
Sponsored by Summerland Football, Football Connect provides an inclusive program that provides Athletes with a Disability a way to enjoy football that might otherwise be a less enjoyable experience.
Capital Football Game Development Coordinator Merryn Brown said the recognition of the program was a great sign of how far inclusion in football has come.
“This is a program that provides so much to the participants, and gives them a really enjoyable environment for their football,” Brown said.
“To be recognised in the public eye is not just great publicity for the program, but also a nod to the people who work so hard behind the scenes to make it a success.”
“A huge thanks goes to the great team at Summerland Football for their sponsorship of the program, which allows for the provision of equipment and uniforms to the players.”
The program would not be possible without the help of the Football Connect Partner clubs, Tuggeranong United, Belwest Foxes Soccer Club, Belsouth Football Club and Belnorth Football Club.
