Majura FC’s U14 Girls squad is more than just a team it’s a reflection of one of the ACT’s strongest footballing communities. For player Tiana Chicco, football has always been part of her life, thanks to a little family inspiration.
“My dad used to play, and that’s how I got into it,” Tiana says with a smile. “One of my favourite memories is just winning games and having fun with my friends.”
Tiana plays with purpose and passion. Her match day mindset is focused and driven: “Before a game, I just really want to win and do my best,” she explains. “To get mentally ready, I make sure I’m in the zone and focused. It’s all about being prepared.”
Inspired by professional players and the excitement of the game, Tiana is a clear example of Majura’s youth talent coming through the ranks. Her advice to younger players is simple but meaningful: “Work hard, keep doing your best, and never give up.”
It’s this kind of attitude that the club has nurtured since its grassroots beginnings. Committee member Nevy Jones, a long-time volunteer and club contributor, has seen the club evolve firsthand.
“Majura has been around since the 1980s as a grassroots club. Over the years it’s expanded to include NPL teams for both boys and girls,” she says. “We now have over 2,000 players and 140 teams. We’re proud to be one of the largest junior soccer clubs in Canberra.”
Nevy’s involvement started like many others through her kids. “I got involved in the committee when my children were young. I started volunteering and gradually transitioned into committee work,” she shares.
Her passion for the club is clear. Nevy speaks with pride about Majura’s player development programs and its strong sense of identity.
“We’re committed to our players, from the emerging programs at ages 9 to 12, right through to the NPL level,” she says. “We cater to both women and men equally, and we’re dedicated to creating genuine development pathways for all players.”
Success for Majura isn’t just measured by results on the field but also by the culture the club has built over decades.
“Our goal is to be the club of choice for elite players in Canberra. We want them to stay loyal to the club and grow with us,” Nervy explains. “What makes Majura special is that we pride ourselves on being a welcoming and community-based environment.”
With players like Tiana Chicco leading the charge on the field and a committee like Nevy Jones ensuring the future is bright off it, Majura’s U14 girls represent everything the club stands for hard work, development, and a love of the game.
From grassroots beginnings to an elite pathway provider, Majura FC continues to grow while staying true to its values: community, opportunity and a commitment to excellence.
