South Canberra Swift cemented their position at the top of the table as they swept aside Queanbeyan-Palerang Power 22-1 at the Canberra Futsal Centre on Friday evening.
The league leaders got off to a flying start as Isabella Hindmarsh, who would end the evening with four goals to her name, grabbed herself a hat-trick by the time the clock had ticked over to three minutes.
Goals flew in at regular intervals, the Swift had fourteen of them by half-time, with Samantha Price and Zoe Halpin both getting a treble, whilst Anneke Corry, Cara Ceruti, Maddie Steinacker, Kaitlyn Colwill, and Alyse Jensen ended with doubles.
Emmalea Kalenjuk pulled one back for the Power in the first-half, but there was eight more in the second-half for the Swift, including one for goalkeeper Megan Snell. It was that kind of evening.
West Canberra Lightning ultimately had too much firepower for ANU Apex but were made to battle hard for their 8-3 victory at Daramalan College on Sunday afternoon.
It seemed that the Lightning would run away with the match after a sensational start that saw them bag four goals in four minutes to take command of the contest. After Michaela Thornton has finished adroitly, the goals suddenly began to flow as Apex were ripped apart.
Nadia Zakman struck twice, following Thornton onto the scoresheet within seconds, and adding her second after Isabella Barac had slid home the third. But Apex responded superbly. Eliza Baker tapped in after good work from Briana Maguire, and Isabella Hopkins followed up to reduce the arrears further.
Lightning upped their intensity following the restart and three-quickfire goals regained the ascendency as Zakman completed a hat-trick, added to strikes from Brittany Palombi and Krista Hagen. Apex pulled one back via Hopkins, before the last word went to Palombi who sealed the win.
Tatum Mazis helped herself to five goals as North Canberra Fire proved too strong for UC Stars, moving joint level on top of the table with South Canberra Swift following an 11-2 win.
Yuen and Mazis got the Fire off to a flier with goals inside the opening six minutes to kick-start the contest, the lead reduced when Kayla Wright, on debut struck from an acute angle.
Sharon Chao was able to restore the lead, prodding in from close range, before Mazis took control, adding two more to her tally before the half-time interval. Stars gave themselves a chance though with a wonderful second, Wright sending a stunning long-range drive into the top corner to make it 5-2 at the break.
However, Mazis was in the mood and added more to her tally with Reilly Yuen also bagging a treble to retake the lead in the race for the Golden Boot.
