HEAD OF REFEREES


For the past two years, Capital Football’s referee department has been managed and delivered by Football Australia. Whilst grateful for the support of Football Australia, it is now time for Capital Football to take on this responsibility. As of 1 November 2024, the referee department will be managed and delivered by Capital Football.

So, with this change in mind, we are searching for a can-do individual who can drive referee recruitment and retention, all while fostering a positive environment. 

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The Head of Referees is pivotal role within Capital Football, responsible for overseeing the services and performance of all referees in the region through the implementation of recruitment, retention and development strategies.

This role focuses on:

  • development, implementation and delivery of the Capital Football refereeing operational plan, as it relates to refereeing in local competitions, and achievement of the key measures of success.
  • creating systems for effective coaching communication and feedback which helps individuals understand their performance, identify areas for improvement, and set goals for professional development.
  • building a strong alignment with the Football Australia to ensure a successful refereeing pathway.

ABOUT YOU

  • You have the right to work in Australia.
  • You hold, or be able to gain, an ACT Working with Vulnerable People Card.
  • You can demonstrate knowledge of Canberra’s refereeing landscape and understand refereeing at a local, state, and national level.
  • You are experienced in the development and implementation of referee development programs.
  • You have a proven ability to build and maintain stakeholder relationships.
  • You are an excellent communicator with the ability to negotiate and influence.
  • You can work under pressure with excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • You are able to work flexible hours, including after hours and weekends.
  • Football Australia referee, assessor and / or instructor qualifications are desirable.
