With only two weeks remaining in the 2017 Capital League season the Premiership is set to come down to the wire, after another round of important results last weekend.
ANU FC 5 def. Narrabundah FC 0
ANU FC kept their place at the equal top of the Capital League ladder with a dominant win over bottom of the table Narrabundah on Saturday afternoon. A three-goal first half was polished off by adding two in the second 45 as Jim Dawson’s side improved their goal difference to 40, well ahead of second place O’Connor’s 21.
Cooma SC 1 drew. Canberra Olympic 1
Cooma climbed off the bottom of the table and over Narrabundah as they drew one goal a piece with fourth placed Canberra Olympic. Iain Elliott’s third goal in two matches gave the hosts the lead, but Gregory Bullock came off the bench to equalise and earn Olympic a share of the points.
Weston Molonglo 1 def. by O’Connor Knights 4
Weston Molonglo’s Premiership and top two hopes took a hit on Saturday as a rampaging O’Connor Knights outfit chalked up a 4-1 win at Phillip. Danny Krajacic continued his fantastic season with his 14th goal from 13 matches, adding to a goal from Brandon Hawker and Marcin Zygmunt’s brace. The win keeps Knights equal top on points with ANU, with the season poised to come down to a blockbuster final day showdown between O’Connor and ANU. Chris Webb’s Weston are now six points off the pace but with a game in hand.
White Eagles 0 def. by Queanbeyan City 1
Queanbeyan City broke a two match winless streak and slowed down White Eagles top four hopes with a one-goal win on Saturday afternoon. Nebosja Aleksic’s goal in the 74th minute after coming off the bench was enough for the visitors to grab the win and almost certainly avoid the wooden spoon. Eagles now face a tough task to make finals, sitting two points behind fourth-placed Olympic and with a tough clash away to O’Connor Knights looming next weekend.
