Capital Football is aware of the frustration of the Futsal community regarding the circumstances surrounding the forthcoming summer season.
An increase in playing numbers, plus a decrease in available, and suitable, Futsal facilities within Canberra and the surrounding region, means that the tournaments we are offering are currently at full capacity.
There has been a resurgence in interest in Futsal for the 2024 Summer season, and Capital Football has received a substantial number of team nominations for the upcoming competitions.
In our Mini section we welcome eight new teams, our Junior competitions see fifteen extra teams entered, and the senior social competitions have increased by nineteen teams.
In total, Capital Football Futsal competitions will see over 320 registered teams across all age grades.
Unfortunately, our main Junior Futsal venue at Lyneham Netball Centre, a cluster of four courts which would host over 110 teams, will be offline for at least six weeks of the upcoming season, whilst other suitable Futsal venues are unavailable between October and December.
Capital Football have been, and are continuing, to extensively explore options for alternative venues to host Futsal competitions for the upcoming season, noting that our sport is in competition with other indoor sports seeking the use of similar facilities.
The lack of these facilities is a continuous problem for our game, both indoor and outdoor, and the unavailability of Futsal venues underlines the necessity for further investment in sporting infrastructure across the region.
We want as many people playing our game as possible, and whilst not an ideal solution, have created wait lists whilst we attempt to find additional venues in the ACT to host Futsal. We will continue to update team representatives with any developments in the coming days.
Capital Football apologises for the inconvenience caused and is open to any suggestions of alternate venues.
