Sorrento FC v Canberra Olympic FC – Percy Doyle Reserve, Duncraig WA – 8:30pm AEST #SORvCOL
Canberra Olympic learnt of their Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32 opponent at the national live draw event, and details of the fixture are now confirmed above.
With goalkeeper and captain Angelo Konstantinou in attendance, Olympic were drawn to face Sorrento FC away.
For Frank Cachia’s side, this means a long road trip after a fantastic run of home games last year and he is under no illusions about the trek across the country.
“It is a bit of an unknown, the furthest we travelled last year was in the NPL [Finals Series] to Brisbane,” he said.
But Perth is basically twice as far, so it is hard to guess around what that will mean for us and how that will play out.”
“It is tough, anyone in that final 32 is there for a reason, they haven’t just slipped their way in.”
“Everybody is there and everyone is looking to progress, and obviously a team representing the NPL in Perth is going to be keen to knock off a small team from Canberra in their own back yard, so we’re under no illusions how tough it will be.”
“They [Sorrento] were quite notable in that they are sitting pretty high up in that NPL WA competition, about fourth at the moment,”
“And we look at that competition and where we may be sitting. And that’s a good way of guaging where we are against them.”
