Woden Valley FC is gearing up for an exciting challenge in the upcoming Hahn Australia Cup Qualifying competition, bringing together a team of talented players eager to showcase their skills and make a mark on the national stage.
The squad of 30 players, which has been playing together for some time now, includes players who recently triumphed in their state league competition, and they are more motivated than ever to prove their worth in the prestigious tournament.
Founded in 2001 Woden Valley has a rich history and a strong tradition of developing talented football players. With a commitment to community engagement and nurturing local talent, the team is excited to represent South Canberra in the Australia Cup.
Many of the players on the current Woden Valley squad list are former juniors from the club who have returned to their roots to play together again. These players, who have competed at higher levels in leagues such as NPL 18 and CPL-23s, decided to come back to Woden because of their shared passion for football and the camaraderie they’ve built over the years.
“This group of players is special because they’ve been through a lot together and have built lasting friendships,” Stuart Noack, Head Coach of Woden Valley commented. “They have all played at high levels, but now they want to enjoy their football again and give something back to their old club. There’s a real sense of pride in representing Woden, and that’s what makes this team unique.”
The team is made up of players from various professional backgrounds. Some are engineers, graduate lawyers, educators, and students – yet they all share one common trait: a deep love for playing football.
“We have a great mix of people in this squad. Everyone has their own story, but when we step on the pitch, we’re all focused on one goal – to play the best football we can and give back to the club that helped us grow,” Mitch Evans team captain said.
The team’s goal is clear: to use the Australia Cup as an opportunity to challenge themselves and compete at the highest level. They believe they have the ability to compete with the best, and with the backing of their loyal supporters, they’re ready to take on the challenge.
“We want to prove that South Canberra can produce good footballers,” Noack revealed. “There’s a lot of talent in this area, and we’re excited to show the rest of the country what we’re capable of. The Australia Cup is the perfect stage for us to test ourselves and see how far we can go. We’re not just here to participate – we’re here to compete.”
