Football Australia wishes to advise in conjunction with Football Queensland that a decision has been made to postpone the 2022 National Futsal Championships.
Originally scheduled for 5-9 January 2022, the FA National Futsal Championships will now take place between 10-14 April 2022 in Gold Coast, Queensland.
Over the past weeks and months, Football Australia and the Member Federations have been working tirelessly through all operational requirements in preparation for the delivery of the 2022 National Futsal Championships.
Unfortunately, the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic across the country, subsequent border restrictions and impacting commercial realities, have now meant that a safe or sustainable tournament could not be delivered in January. Therefore, the decision was made to postpone the National Futsal Championships and have the tournament rescheduled for April 2022.
The postponement to April has been made as a further commitment to Futsal and ensuring the tournament can be delivered to the best possible standard, with all Member Federations provided the opportunity to participate. The decision was also made in light of:
- Increased concern regarding child protection and safe-guarding;
- Increased COVID-19 Protocols and requirements which would have led to increased costs and logistics;
- Increased concern from some Member Federations due to financial risks, travel restrictions and current border closures; and
- Maintaining Football Australia and Member Federation brand and competition integrity
Football Australia and Capital Football would like to take this opportunity to thank all players, coaches and officials who have been involved in the respective state Futsal programs thus far.
Over the coming period, Capital Football will be working through revised scheduling for training and travel options ahead of the National Futsal Championships tour in April 2022. At this stage. trials will not be rescheduled for Capital Football.
All players and coaches will be contacted with further updates to allow individuals to assess the impact of the changed dates in relation to their own circumstances.
