ACT Academy of Sport

Since it was formed in 1989 as an arm of Sport and Recreation ACT, the ACT Academy of Sport (ACTAS) has assisted ACT elite and potentially elite athletes from a wide variety of sports in reaching their potential.

ACTAS is part of a network of elite training centres across Australia designed to develop our athletes to their full sporting potential. The Academy provides a range of services and programs to ACT athletes to enable them to reach that potential and be more competitive at the state, national and international level.  Overall, ACTAS supports athletes from over 30 different sports.

Being an endorsed ‘Official Olympic and Paralympic Training Centre’ a key part of the Australian Sports Commission's National Elite Sports Network means that ACTAS is in the front line of support and development of ACT’s Olympic and Paralympic athletes.

ACTAS is primarily funded by the ACT Government through Sport and Recreation Services and is assisted by a range of corporate sponsors and the Australian Sports Commission.

Football Program

The ACTAS Football Programs will provide access to world-class coaching, facilities and support services as well as high performance training and competition environments with a view to:

• Provide a feeder system into junior, youth, AIS and senior national programs;
• Identify talented athletes and assist them to reach an international performance standard;
• Improve the performance of athletes/teams at national level and so lift the international ranking of Australian representative athletes and teams;
• Expand the career and development opportunities for Australian coaches to ensure our athletes are provided with quality coaching.
• Combine the resources of the Australian Sports Commission (ASC), State Institutes and Academies of Sport (SIS/SAS) and National and State Sporting Organisations (NSO and SSO) in a coordinated national program which provides maximum benefit to athletes.
