Capital Football is delighted to announce exciting developments for Women’s football in the ACT next year, with structured Premier League competition to provide a pathway right through from U/13’s.
The National Premier Leagues ACT for Women and Girl’s will feature U/13’s, U15’s and U/17’s as Youth age grades, with the Senior’s made up of Reserve grade and 1st Grade.
Tuggeranong United club President Jon Thiele stressed the importance of a structured pathway for our female footballers, and aligning the competition with that of the Men.
"It is absolutely paramount females receive the same opportunities in football as our men," he said.
"Up until recent times I don't believe enough resourcing has been put into women's football. However with the planned expansion of the program for the 2017 season, clubs will have no choice but to resource it appropriately, as they do their men's program."
"At Tuggeranong United FC we see many similarities in the men's and women's programs and our aim is to use those to benefit each other."
"We believe it paramount therefore that to align each of the competitions, where possible. Player and coach development will be enhanced as a result of this cross pollination simply through an exchange of ideas, skills and knowledge. The benefits to the club and overall competition is immeasurable."
The NPL structure for Women and Girl’s will be supported by Masters (O/35) league, State League and Junior League.
The name ‘Capital League’ will be discontinued to be replaced by ‘State League 1’ and is open to all ages, while Junior League grades will consist of U/18’s, U/16’s, U/14’s and U/12’s.
The following teams are confirmed to participate in the 2017 ACT National Premier League for Women and Girl’s:
